Then on January 11, 2024, eleven spot Bitcoin ETFs were approved all at once. A spot ETF holds actual Bitcoin — far more accurate price tracking than the earlier futures-based ETFs, and institutional investors can actually trust it.
Why Is BlackRock Involved? — The IBIT Story
Of the eleven approved ETFs, BlackRock's IBIT attracted the most attention. BlackRock is the world's largest asset manager, with over $10 trillion in AUM.
IBIT set the record for fastest ETF to cross $10 billion in AUM. By 2025 it was at around $45 billion. Total trading volume across all spot Bitcoin ETFs has surpassed $500 billion. This is the main reason Bitcoin hit an all-time high before the 2024 halving.
What About Outside the US?
Domestic Bitcoin spot ETFs may not be available in your country yet. Regulatory discussions are ongoing in many markets.
